MITCHELL, S.D. — The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Department is extending the allowable time for ice anglers to keep fish houses, shelters or other structures on the state’s lakes.
Due to heavy snow and winds that have made navigating lakes difficult, anglers will not have to remove structures by the previously announced deadline of midnight on Thursday, Feb. 28.
GF&P has not set a hard deadline for fish house removal, but once conditions improve, the department will alert anglers of an exact deadline date.
The deadline for removal is in place to prevent fish houses from falling through melting ice, but the severe winter conditions should protect against that happening at least through most of March.
