Checking the memory card from a game camera can bring about some surprises like the one Doug Schneider of Garfield found in mid-August.
Most of those surprises involve an interesting photo of an unlikely animal or a whitetail caught in an unusual position. For Schneider, it was a doe triggering his camera at the exact same time as a lightning strike.
Thunderstorms have been frequent around Douglas County over the last month-plus, and the image captured the bolt lighting up his farm site in the middle of the night on his land where Schneider has a food plot planted.
“I have had game cameras out for 15-plus years now and this is the coolest non-big deer picture I have ever gotten,” Schneider said. “This is the first time I have captured something this interesting in the background with a deer in the foreground. I haven’t ever captured lightning by itself, so I know it was the deer that triggered the picture.”
